ANU Pathway Diploma fees for 2027: what AUD 57,640 covers
ANU’s indicative annual tuition fee for each Pathway Diploma in 2027 is AUD 57,640. The figure applies to the Diploma year, not the full Diploma and Bachelor sequence. It is a tuition figure, so it should not be read as a complete budget for studying and living in Canberra.
The same indicative fee applies to all three Diplomas
| Pathway Diploma | 2027 indicative annual tuition |
|---|---|
| Diploma of Business and Economics | AUD 57,640 |
| Diploma of Computing | AUD 57,640 |
| Diploma of Politics and International Relations | AUD 57,640 |
ANU’s 2027 International Guide to Pathway Diplomas lists the same amount for each program. ANU describes the tuition cost as aligned with the first year of the corresponding Bachelor degree. The amount remains indicative, rather than a fixed price for the entire pathway.
What students study during the Diploma year
Each Diploma runs for 12 months full-time across two semesters, with eight courses. Teaching takes place in person at ANU’s Acton Campus in Canberra; there is no remote option.
The curriculum includes ESEN1001 Academic Skills for University Study and level-1000 courses shared with Bachelor students. Students are full ANU students from commencement. The programs are delivered by an entity wholly owned by ANU.
The Diploma experience also includes enrolment counselling before commencement, individual academic advice, monitoring of engagement and progress, referrals to campus services, and support with the transition into a Bachelor degree. These describe the program’s teaching and support model, rather than an itemised breakdown of the tuition fee.
Bachelor credit depends on the degree and progression requirements
The Diplomas are standalone AQF Level 5 qualifications that can lead into aligned Bachelor degrees with one year of credit, equivalent to 48 units, subject to the relevant progression requirements.
| Diploma | Aligned Bachelor degrees and required Diploma GPA |
|---|---|
| Business and Economics | Accounting, Business Administration, Commerce, Economics or Finance: GPA 4.0 |
| Computing | Computing: GPA 4.0 |
| Politics and International Relations | Asian Studies: GPA 4.0; International Relations, International Security Studies, Political Science or Public Policy: GPA 4.6 |
The annual Diploma fee does not establish the tuition payable for the remaining Bachelor study. No total price for that later study is given here.
Students may apply to a non-aligned Bachelor after the Diploma, but their application is assessed as that of a student with one year of undergraduate study at ANU. Credit is considered case by case, so changing programs does not guarantee a full year of credit.
Scholarships should not be assumed in the starting budget
Most Diploma students are not eligible for the ANU International Achievement Award or Vice-Chancellor’s Award during the Diploma. They may be assessed when progressing into a Bachelor degree if their Diploma GPA is at least 4.6, equivalent to selection rank 85. Meeting that threshold does not itself promise an award.
The stated exception is for Pacific Region citizens, who receive a 50% tuition discount under the International Achievement Award from Diploma commencement.
ANU also states that Commonwealth Supported Places may apply to eligible domestic students. That is a separate eligibility consideration from the indicative tuition figure above.
Keep the Diploma fee separate from the full study budget
For international applicants, the Diploma must be packaged with a Bachelor degree; it cannot be pursued with only a standalone one-year study intention. Financial capacity needs to cover the Diploma and Bachelor sequence.
The key budgeting distinction is therefore:
- Diploma tuition: AUD 57,640 as the indicative annual amount for 2027.
- Later Bachelor tuition: not priced by that figure.
- Living costs: not included in the tuition figure and not estimated here.
A complete budget needs those amounts kept separate, along with any applicable scholarship or domestic funding eligibility.
