ANU Residential Colleges · Burgmann, John XXIII, Ursula Hall and More

ANU has one of Australia’s most developed residential college systems, with approximately 5,000 students living in 10 affiliated colleges and halls on or near campus.

Catered Colleges

These provide three meals a day, academic support, and a strong collegiate identity:

Burgmann College: Postgraduate and undergraduate. Known for academic intensity and strong arts/performance culture. Cost: ~$500/week.

John XXIII College: Catholic foundation, ecumenical in practice. Strong sports and music programs. Cost: ~$480/week.

Ursula Hall: The largest catered hall. Diverse international community. Cost: ~$460/week.

Bruce Hall: Undergoing redevelopment (expected completion 2028). Currently operating from temporary accommodation.

Self-Catered Halls

Residents share kitchen facilities and have more independence:

Burton & Garran Hall (B&G): Largest self-catered hall. High proportion of international students. Strong community events. Cost: ~$320/week.

Fenner Hall: Relocated to Kambri precinct. Modern facilities, strong sustainability focus. Cost: ~$340/week.

Wamburun Hall: Socially active, strong music/interhall sports culture. Cost: ~$330/week.

Wright Hall: Newest hall, emphasis on leadership development. Cost: ~$350/week.

UniLodge

UniLodge @ ANU (Davey Lodge, Lena Karmel Lodge, Kinloch Lodge) is a commercial student accommodation provider offering studio and shared apartments with independent living. Cost: $280–420/week. Less collegiate atmosphere but more independence and privacy.

How to Choose

  • Want community + meals: Catered college (Burgmann, John XXIII, Ursula Hall)
  • Want independence + community: Self-catered hall (B&G, Fenner, Wamburun)
  • Want independence + privacy: UniLodge
  • Budget priority: Self-catered hall or off-campus share housing

Apply through the ANU Accommodation Portal. Early applications (August–October) are strongly recommended — colleges fill quickly, especially the catered options.
