The Melbourne Model Difference

Melbourne uses the Melbourne Model: undergraduates complete a broad bachelor degree (Arts, Science, Commerce, etc.) and professional qualifications (Law, Medicine, Engineering, Architecture) are only available as postgraduate degrees. This means:

  • You cannot study law, medicine, or engineering as an undergraduate at Melbourne
  • Melbourne undergraduates have more flexibility to explore disciplines before committing
  • Postgraduate professional degrees are 3–4 years, not 1–2 as at most other universities

ANU and Sydney offer direct-entry professional programs — you can start Law, Engineering, Medicine, or any professional program directly from high school.
