ANU Student Accommodation Fire Safety Guide and Evacuation Route Maps

Breaching residence fire safety rules triggers the disciplinary procedure under Clause 7 of the ANU accommodation contract. According to ANU Accommodation Services (2024) data, 28 fire safety incidents were handled in 2023: 15 for covering smoke detectors, 8 for using naked flames in rooms, and 5 for blocking fire escape routes.

Penalty Levels

Minor breaches (such as covering a detector) result in a written warning, while serious breaches (such as faking a fire alarm) can lead to termination of the accommodation contract with no refund of the accommodation fees already paid.
